How do I take the Water Company to court?
Two weeks ago, the water company knocked on my door and said they will be installing a water meter inground. I asked if this was something that was going to be noticable? They replied no. I left for work and came home to a 4' X 4 ' patch of asphalt and a 15" manhole cover in the middle of my driveway. It was fresh asphlalt, all uneven and asphlalt pebbles everywhere. I honestly thought that the manhole cover was temporary and they were coming back to complete the job. They never did! The job was complete and a total mess. I called the water company and I am still waiting for a supervisor to contact me. I told them that they need to repave the entire driveway and remove the manhole cover. This has not only devalued my property significantly but the fresh asphalt has been trapped into my shoes and now has scratched my floors in my home.
I felt that I was lied to by the men who came to my door, telling me anything that I wanted to hear just to get the job done. I would like to know my rights as a property owner. I have a water meter inside my house but the meter reader has not been unable to read my meter for 6 months. With that said, they have been overcharging me and I have not had to pay the water compnay for 6 months. They had my money from when they overcharged me and I paid them .I owed them nothing and still owe nothing today.
How do I bring the water company to court (small claims court) and demand that my entire driveway be repaved and my floors fixed?. I am asking for suggestions on how to proceed? I feel discriminated against because I work and cannot be home to let the meter reader in my home.
I appreciate any help!
