Okay its a long story and I'll try to shorten it. My husband has joint custody of his 9yr old daughter and she lives with us. Her mother gets her everyother weekend and holidays. Well the mother has never cared for me and has openly expressed this with her daughter and anyone else willing to listen to her. About a month ago she came to our house to drop her daughter back off and started to holler at me. Now, I was holding my 4month old son on MY own front porch. My husband and I are asking her to leave and she just continues to holler at me. Well we turn to head back inside hoping that she will leave and she says that she is calling the sherriff and saying that I threatend her. I never have and never will I am not that stupid. Well, she pressed charges and I got arressted and released. Since she did all this she has called my home and threatened me over the phone. I called to make a report of it with the sherriff's office...not to press charges just to get it on file...and I was told that I could not do so and I was just "bickering with her and needed to stop" She continues to do stuff and there is nothing according the she sherriff that I can do about it. I am documenting everything. She talks to people online about me saying that I beat her daughter, which I would never do, I have 2 of my own and wouldn't want anyone touching them. If anyone has any suggestions PLEASE help me here. THanks

To begin let me ask you a few questions: (1) Are you going to court over the harrasment compliant and if so is it municipal court? (2) What type of evidence do you have of the mother's negative statements against you? Can you print something from the internet that contains her statements? Do you have any video or tape recordings?

Yes, I have printed off statements she made to other people and I think it is criminal court I am not familiar with all that. I have started to record ever time that she comes to the house or calls it.

Can the statement you printed be linked to the mother? Is her name on them? Also, do you have a court date?

I would recommend that you purchase a tape recording device; such as from Radio Shack. You will then be able to record any/all telephone conversations on your home telephone. They are also supposed to be admissable in NJ courts and you DO NOT have to disclose to the other party that you are recording. Good-Luck!
