What is the penalty for someone who fraudulently purchases a credit report (for “employment purposes”) without written consent? Who is responsible for giving the penalty if it contains 4 states in the U.S.A. & 2 companies? How does one press charges for this? Thank you.

Did you apply for employment at a company and did that company order a credit report on you without your consent?

The only link I have with said company is that I ended a dating relationship with President of said company 2 years ago! We now have custody battle & so this is harassment & Fraud on many levels. (We were never married.)

He can be sued for violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This is because he accessed the report with no legitimate business need.

He violated FCRA section 604. He pulled your credit info without any legitimate purpose. Under the law he is liable for $1,000 plus your attorney's fees. An attorney that practises in consumer law should be able to assist you in this type of matter.
