Wife and minor (17) son went to a public shopping store. Son went back to automobile to pick up something from trunk. An unknown citizen saw a toy gun in trunk and called it in to police as thinking it was real. Son was stopped in entrance by police, keys taken, thrown on hood of car in some sort of hold, car searched. After verifying it was a toy gun, let him go, said sorry and left. At no time were we notified of the incident. When I called the police station they stated they did not file a report, but I have a cas number. (or something like that)

He stated he was 17.
He stated his parents were in the store.
He stated it was our car.
They verified his age by taking his wallet and viewing his license.
Wife bought toy gun at sale for a future holloween costume, it has the bright red/orange cap on end.

If your asking if there is anything you can do then the answer is, no.

The search was legal. You had a concerned citizen that somehow saw a gun (fake or not, unknown to them) in the trunk of a car and gave a description of your son. He was stopped and searched and then the car was searched being that no gun was found on him and the car was part of this investigation.

Just be tankful the police said sorry, sometimes they doesn't even do that...

Thanks for your reply..
I just thought it was rather strange that they would not contact the adult in this case.
