I had a restraining order put on my ex husband 17 yrs ago after he assaulted me. I now work for a firearms manufacturer here in NJ, and applied for a firearms license. The police informed me that I too have a restraining order on me from 17 yrs ago. Something I never knew, and my application was denied. Now, I just had my fingerprints done for a FID for my job. I asked my ex husband if go to court with me and both of us have the restraining orders lifted on each other. He has been putting me off since April, claiming he is busy, and he had to wait 17 yrs for me to take his off, so I have to wait now. I tried to explain to him that I need this lifted to get my FID so that I can keep my job, but he doesn't care. He said I made him wait, now he will make me wait.
I do not want to lose my job. Is there anyway I can go to court on my own, and explain the situation to a judge, and have him served to go to court with me? There is no way I can afford an attorney to help me with this. Can anyone help me, please? I love my AP/AR job for this company, and I don't know what will happen to me or my family if I lose my job.
