We have spilt custody - one child is insured by mom and the other is on stepmom's family plan. Mom used to cover both kids but she refused to cover them both when she changed jobs. So dad placed the child on stepmom's family plan. There is no extra cost to cover to add the child to the family plan but now mom is asking dad to pay 1/2 of the cost of the premium for the child on her policy.
The question is can we use the per capita cost of the child on our family plan to offset the expense of mom's plan? Does the guidelines support this? I can't get a straight answer.
Health Insurance for the Child - The parent's marginal cost of adding a child
to a health insurance premium is not included in the support schedules and
should be added to the basic obligation if incurred.
