hi...i have been disabled for a year due to complications after stent...i now need an endarterectomy to correct problem so i can walk...the only income is disability and st. clare's hosp. says i can't have operation unless i have $3000.00 first-they are still evaluating for charity care-but if not accepted i need the money up front....they said it does not matter what bills i have--just my income from disability....i just got foreclosure notice from bank---1 year behind in mortgage payyments(about $50,000 plus $15,000 in real estate taxes....QUESTION is....Can the hospital deny me access if i am not accepted for charity care? And don't have the $3000.00.............QUESTION #2--Can the hospital deny charity care when i am completely broke?---and in such dire straits?....
