View Full Version : Warranty Repair
Bought a 2003 Ford Explorer 46k miles. After 1 week a noise was coming from the car. Took it back where I bought the car and they told me the rear differential was bad and was covered under warranty. They have had the car for almost 10 business days so far with no end in sight. Is there something I can do? Do I have any rights here?
Thanks

A couple of questions - (1) Is this a factory warranty? (2) Did they give you an estimate of how long it would take to fix the car?
It was a 60 day or 2000 mile warranty from the ford dealer I bought the car from. The rear went bad after about 600 miles 10 days later.
I got a verbal time quote from the head of sales of one or two days

For starters you can call them and ask them to provide you with a rental until the car is fixed. If the dealer gives you an attitude you should threaten to sue them for breach of warranty. That should get their attention.
Thanks Eagle.
The dealer has offered to pay only so much toward a rental that does not cover the total amount. There is only a 7 dollar difference but it still is money out of my pocket. Just found out yesterday that it could be done in by the middle of next week. Every time I ask questions or complain it seems they put it off more. They promise the world but all I get is hot air.

Finally got the car back yesterday afternoon. Still has the same problem. Called Ford Motor Co Customer service and they were no help at all.

You have have rights under the NJ used car lemon law. Click here to read it http://www.nj.gov/lps/ca/ocp/lembroc.pdf
You may have to give them a second chance to fix it because the car must be in the shop for 20 or more days to invoke the lemon law.
Well the car just went back in Monday for the same problem. They said the car might be done by next Monday. That makes twice for the same problem and they will have the car over 15 days.
Well the car is going back to the dealer for the third time to try and repair the same problem. This will also put the car in the shop for more than 20 days. I've also had to pay up front $800 for the loaner car and have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for Ford to reimburse me the money. Told them I can't afford their loaner cars anymore. This sucks, I really like the car but Ford can't seem to fix it correctly.

At this point you should find a lemon law attorney and sue for breach of warranty and other legal theories. You shouldn't have to put up with this crap from the dealer anymore.
