Im in Bergen county .Today I found out my account was frozen. I owe 1300 bucks but they took my balance which was 40 and I have an unemployment check going thru tomorrow which I need.

Isn'T against the law to freeze unemployment benefits? What is the min amount they can freeze?

What can I do, my check is for over 600 ,and is unemployment benifits. Do I call the bank and tell them I will sue if they don't release my unemployment. If I do that itl make it worse for me.

I called the bank today and they gave my the officers number to call. What am I getting into if I call? Can I make a payment plan have have my full amount unfrozen. I owe 1300 and all together its 700 frozen will they risk a payment play for another 600?

I really need very accurate info. Thanks for ur help.If you know how of a free legal number I can call that would help.

You should receive your unemployment benefits by check. In NJ you can get direct deposit or check.

As for your bank account, it sounds like a judgement was processed through the Sheriff's department. That is why they gave you an "officer's" phone number.

You need to ask the bank of the anticipated direct deposit will be swiped right away by the judgment or will you have time withdraw it. Call them first thing in the morning. If they tell you that the direct deposit will be taken before you can withdraw it then you may want to close the account asap. Then you will have to contact NJ Unemployment (which is probably a nightmare) and explain that the direct deposit info you gave them has changed. Then you can either open a new account at another bank, or better yet, receive payment via check.

Let us know how things work out.
