I have been having trouble finding answers on how to start a subsidiary. I have an existing LLC, call it ABC, LLC. I am looking to start another LLC as a subsidiary of ABC, LLC. I know that both ABC, LLC & XYZ, LLC are considered two seperate legal entities. I also understand that XYZ, LLC would be filed using ABC, LLC as the single owner of XYZ, LLC. But what type of paperwork do I fill out to do this?

I believe you can use Form C-150G "Registration of an Alternate Name" from the NJ Dept of Revenue. I believe this form will allow you to register another name under your present LLC. You can call the Dept of Revenue at 609-292-9292.

Yes I can use that to file an alternate name, but if I use an alternate name filing then that name is not exclusive to me. Is there a way to file the second company with the exclusive name or is the only way to just open a completely seperate business?

The only other thing I can think of is form a new LLC with the new name and list the new LLC as a 100% owned asset of your primary LLC.
The advice of a Business Law Attorney or Corporate Law Attorney can save you much expense and heartache by setting up your business properly.
