My offer letter shows that I'm bound to work with the company for 24months. Is it legal in the offer letter?
I'm on H1B and location : NJ

-----------------
I left the company after working with it for 9 month. Now I'm with a new company with good pay.
My old employer has filled a case in court that I have breached the contract. However, I've given proper 1month notice before leaving it.
Now I'm spending enough in lawyer to sort out the problem.
--------------
My old employer did not pay my first 2months salary.
Given my medical cards after 4months.
--------------------------------

Is there any way I can come out of it?
What if I lodge a complaint in DOL?

Help appreciated.

Without knowing the specifics of your contract I can only make the following comments: Many employment contracts are valid. Your old employer can sue you and get a monet judgment against you. You may have some defenses (did not pay first 2 months salary) and these should be asserted in an answer to the complaint.

I don't understand why these kind of contracts are legal. US is a free county and slavery is no more a legal term here.
