I bought a car 2 days ago from a dealership, it was sold as is, BUT these crooks cleared all the trouble codes in the vehicle and told me NOTHING but the heater core was damaged (turns out the heater core is fine its EVERYTHING ELSE) but the worst part is theres not cat on the car (which is not legal) and the vehicles odometer is FROZEN so it does not rack up any miles is this not fraud?

they wont do anything for me what can I do??

Thank you for any help

Yes, it is fraud and the fact that they sold it "as is" will not absolve them from liability. The first thing I would do is explain to the dealer all the facts you discovered and demand your money back. Tell them that you will sue them for fraud, consumer fraud and breach on contract. You may also want to let them know you are thinking about calling the State and Federal EPA and reporting them for selling a car without a cat (highly illegal). The dealer may be criminally liable here.

Let me know hat happens. If they don't give you a refund I may be able to help you more.

the manager gets in, in about 2 hours im gonna call him but yesterday I told the salesmen MOST of what you said (minus the EPA and all) and he said "nothing we can do for you" either they think they really ARE covered by the "as is" or they think that im NOT aware of the law (which now thanks you YOU I am)

I post in about 2 hours (as soon as I talk to the manager) and let ya know whats going on.

I guess in the meantime I shouldn't buy anything for the truck right? since most likely I'll be giving it back to them?

BTW THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Right, don't buy anything for the truck. The "as is" language only means that they give you no implied warranties with the car. So if something broke, like the transmission then you would be sol. But "as is" doesn't mean they can sell you a car in a condition that violates Federal Law. Oh and you can also tell them that the State of NJ will likely revoke their Dealers license over this situation.

ok great, I'll do that as well, he gets in at 10:00 so I got about 40 mins.

im gonna try and be nice at first but if it gets me no where I'll tell what he needs to know (and as a dealer should already know)

This is my interperetation of what he said to you: "Boy, we can't get away with ripping this guy off so let me try to act like I'm doing him a favor a find him another vehicle"

Ok, well maybe he will make good on the deal and find you a truck that has not been butchered. He should be able to find you a decent truck because car dealers a full of trucks bacause gas prices are so high.
